GOLDEN
BRIDGE
Since it was founded in 1955, Corum has kept a culture of design and a commitment to innovation. Its avant garde approach has led to the creation of some bold icons, such as the Coin watch, Bubble, Admiral and most significantly, the Golden Bridge.
ORIGINS
Undoubtedly the watchmaker’s most cherished icon, the Golden Bridge watch is distinguished by its fascinating baguette shape movement.
1980
First introduced in 1980, it is regarded as a fine example of contemporary watchmaking, captivating fans of haute horlogerie at a time when its values were threatened by the quartz crisis.
Developed in collaboration with renowned Italian watchmaker Vincent Calabrese, the unique linear movement made its grand unveil in 1980 at Basel Fair.
The intricately engraved gold movement features a linear gear train ensconced in a facetted sapphire crystal case that allowed for an unobstructed view.
ITERATIONS
In the decades that followed, there have been several iterations of the Golden Bridge, all of which pay tribute to the watchmaker’s technical prowess.
To mark the 30th anniversary of this extraordinary calibre, Corum unveils a feminine expression presented in a slender and curved tonneau shaped sapphire crystal case. The horns were removed so the strap would integrate perfectly into the case like a cuff watch, while the winding crown at 6 o’clock accentuates the refined character of this contemporary and elegant case.
Combining its watchmaking expertise and dedication to time-honoured watchmaking crafts, the Golden Bridge Dragon shows an imperial dragon protectively guarding the hand-wound CO 113 movement, a worthy descendant of the first ever baguette movement introduced by Corum in 1980.
Housed in a round case for the first time ever, the famous in-line baguette movement sits between two engraved bridges that are shaped after the famous Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
Building on the success of Golden Bridge Round is this daring execution that combines the unique architecture of Corum’s baguette movement with the allure of precious gemstones. The bridge appears sandwiched between stones set in a gold lacework that extends across the movement. Just the gem setting alone demanded a day and a half of work.
The first Corum watch to feature a metallic decoration on its sapphire case back, this collaboration with acclaimed composer and pianist Joachim Horsley depicts an extract from the original score of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony. Clients who purchased the Golden Bridge Rectangle were also offered the opportunity to personalise their own unique piece with an engraving of a different score, motif, letters, or coat of arms.
Corum’s Golden Bridge celebrates its 40th anniversary with two special models bearing the original case shape as the original one from 1980. The white gold version features a case bearing engraved acanthus and fern plants, a tribute to the “Style Sapin” design that originated in La Chaux-de-Fonds. In the rose gold version, an original “Limited Edition 1 of 40” inscription is engraved inside the watch case while Corum’s symbol, the key, is featured repeatedly on the sapphire crystal.
