3 Afternoon Teas To Dig Into For International Women’s Day

Sure, we may not need any particular reason to gather with girlfriends this month, but celebrating and supporting women is a darn good place to start.

01 | The Fullerton Hotels Singapore

One of the colours of International Women’s Day — the others being green and white — purple sets the tone for the annual afternoon tea curated by The Fullerton Hotels Singapore in honour of IWD. Representing justice and dignity, purple takes the form of the Lavender Jivara Chocolate Opera cake, a decadent, dreamy confection of almond Joconde sponge layered with delicate lavender-infused chocolate ganache and lavender creme in between.

Besides this cake-of-the-month created by Executive Pastry Chef Siddharth Prabhu, look out for other purple-hued treats such as spice smoked chicken mini tartlet with berry jam, blackcurrant mini cupcake, blueberry financier, violet choux and more. Even better, $5 from the proceeds of each Purple Afternoon Tea set will be donated to United Women Singapore and be put to work advancing gender equality and promoting STEM.

Available at The Courtyard and The Landing Point daily until 31 March.

02 | InterContinental Singapore

Be spoiled by not one, but two new afternoon tea experiences here — Classic Afternoon Tea: Tropical Paradise and Vegan Afternoon Tea. Featuring tropical fruit, the former includes highlights such as nyonya spicy chicken with grated coconut, candied ginger scones with mango peach jam, and white coffee bean cremeux with lemongrass, pomegranate and pomelo jelly. And the latter, conceptualised with vegan and vegetarian diners in mind, comprises offerings such as meat-free barbecue bun, lemon lime curd with lemon almond sable, and coconut sponge cake with caramelised banana jam and lime whipped cream.

While you’re at it, consider turning a weekend gathering into a proper celebration with a flute of Taittinger Brut champagne, a glass of alcoholic Copenhagen Sparkling Tea, or even unlimited ice cream from a traditional push cart.

Available at The Lobby Lounge daily until 30 April.

Here’s an unexpected theme for an afternoon tea menu: opposites. The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore’s Lobby Lounge introduces its Fire & Ice Afternoon Tea, a showcase of contrasting temperatures and concepts: hot and cold, classic and contemporary. Think raspberry sorbet and sparkling wine followed by a rum baba lit on fire, smoked haddock with mentaiko emulsion served alongside arancini that takes inspiration from chicken rice, and classic and cranberry scones presented with passionfruit chocolate spread, clotted cream and berry jam. Plus with every course paired with a blend made by TWG Teas, this menu promises to be one filled with adventure.

Available daily at Lobby Lounge.
