Million Lighting COO Nana Au-Chua’s annual Chinese New Year celebration with her friends is always a cheery riot. The celebration usually occupies the whole of Empress, the elegant restaurant at the Asian Civilisations Museum which overlooks the Singapore River and the historic Boat Quay precinct. The best of society friends all gathered in celebration on 17 January, including Cheryl Lee, Marilyn Lum, Carmen Ow and Tan Min-Li. The theme of the luncheon was Fashionably Festive, emblazoned on the invitation cards with a blue and white porcelain print, and everyone came dressed to match. After all, this luncheon is a highly anticipated event on everyone’s social calendar each Lunar New Year. Even the thoughtful take-home gift of a zodiac stuffed toy has become somewhat of a collectable — each year, Au-Chua has a stuffed toy of the year’s zodiac specially created and wrapped in a series of different fabric designs, just as a fun way to commemorate the beginning of a new year.
