It was like Hollywood came to Grand Hyatt Jakarta when Patty Kaunang celebrated her birthday.

The doors to the ballroom of Grand Hyatt Jakarta swung open to the pulsating beats of Enigma as two models led birthday girl Patty Kaunang in by hand. She made a dramatic statement striding the aisle in her black diamante bodysuit and a crinoline skirt frame, as she greeted friends who came dressed like superheroes, film icons and villains for the themed costume party.
With this end-August blowout, Kaunang checked boxes off her bucket list, from producing a theatrical party and her own musical excerpts to performing a tango dance. And instead of gifts, she asked guests to donate to the Maria Lukito Foundation, which supports the education of talented but underprivileged students.
The generous birthday girl also offered the 15 best-dressed guests prizes such as a business class air ticket to Paris and two nights’ stay at W Bali. After a costume change, she appeared again, this time sprawled across a carrying chair on the shoulders of four attendants dressed as “Egyptian” muscle men.
As The Macallan whisky, wine and gin flowed, doting husband Phillip Widjaja joined her for the cutting of her cake, which featured her favourite character, Betty Boop. The evening hit a high note and was done and dusted even before midnight!
