The Balvenie × Royal Selangor Collector’s Edition Embodies Excellence And True Craftsmanship

Two storied brands have come together for a magnificent partnership: The Balvenie and Royal Selangor have unveiled their first collaborative collection in Singapore and Malaysia, and this limited-edition collector’s box perfectly epitomises exclusivity.

Launched in December 2020, the premium set comprises three of The Balvenie’s higher-age-range single malt Scotch whiskies. Each single malt is a rich and luxuriously smooth expression that displays the distinctively honeyed character of The Balvenie.

All of this is housed in a well-made box bearing one of the design signatures of Royal Selangor. Hewn from high-grade walnut wood, the box is encased in handcrafted pewter decorated with a dimpled design. Its appearance, while simple, really demands a skilful and precise hammering technique to bring to life. Each takes up to six days to complete, and only 15 sets are available.

This is The Balvenie’s first collaboration in Singapore and is part of The Balvenie’s Handcrafted By, a platform that realises the passion for craftsmanship and celebrates the heart and the people behind artisanal endeavours.

What’s more, the two brands — one recognised for its award-winning Speyside single malt whisky and the other an established name in quality pewter in Malaysia — are century-old companies that have stayed true to their craft throughout their history. The Balvenie is the only distillery in the Scottish Highlands that maintains the Five Rare Crafts of whisky making — the malt master, growing its own barley, traditional floor maltings and on-site coppersmiths and coopers — since it was acquired in 1892 by William Grant & Sons. Meanwhile, Royal Selangor, founded in 1885, is synonymous with innovative design and expert craftsmanship. Since 1979, the brand has held the warrant of Royal Pewterer, a distinction conferred by the Sultan of Selangor.

“It is an honour to partner with Royal Selangor at a time when the world around us is automating, and true craftsmanship is becoming a rare commodity,” says Brett Bayly, The Balvenie’s regional brand ambassador for malts in Southeast Asia.

“We truly value those who share the same dedication, passion and heart for craft as we do at The Balvenie.”

Chen Tien Yue, executive director of Royal Selangor, adds: “Collaborating with a partner that places just as much emphasis on craftsmanship, it was only fitting that we chose to use Royal Selangor’s signature hand-hammered finish. I hope The Balvenie’s customers will appreciate and treasure this special piece that stores their favourite The Balvenie whiskies.”
