Everything was swanky, shiny and super at the ExotiCars Club’s (ECC) Chinese New Year celebration dinner on 2 February. At the driveway of the Parkroyal Collection Marina Bay, 40 ECC supercars from McLarens to Maseratis started rolling up on this evening, followed by a rousing lion dance that welcomed the members and ushered in this year of the Golden Rat.
During dinner, an auspicious war drum performance impressed, while a boisterous Lo Hei session led by the emcees, local stars Macy Chen and Gaomei, was a fun-filled riot. But it did not go as planned subsequently, at least not to club president Chia Boon Teck. What promised to be a typical annual ECC affair turned out to be the supercars club’s most hilarious Chinese New Year event in its 11-year history, thanks to surprise rip-roaring entertainment by well-known comedian, Jack Neo. Together with the two emcees, the trio kept guests cheering all night.
The sumptuous menu included such delicacies as suckling pig, abalone, lobster and bird’s nest. Another surprise came at 20:20 in the form of a touching tribute by the ECC committee members to the club president Chia for his inimitable leadership and his time taken to run the club for the past decade, despite co-running a law firm.
