With Grace Jones as its muse, Spring 2021 is anything but conformist at Jimmy Choo. Admired for her androgynous style, the legendary style icon-disco diva-film actress often switches effortlessly between sexy bustier gowns and smartly cut tuxedo jackets. (Read how Jones also inspired a ready-to-wear line back in SS20 here.)
Such showstopping ensembles are often juxtaposed with Jones’ signature flat-top and piercing gaze to further accentuate her inimitable insouciance. It is this “confidence, strength and the desire to stand out” that Jimmy Choo’s creative director Sandra Choi – click here for our favourite SS21 looks by women creative directors – describes as the brand essence.
As she shares of Jimmy Choo Spring 2021 collection, which is christened Amazing Grace, “We are about beautiful contradictions, a contradictory glamour. On the one hand, we are about the slick, streamlined silhouette, and on the other, we are about colour, gloss and sparkle, balancing timelessness with fashion.”
Opposites invariably attract here. Precious textures play up razor-sharp silhouettes, as pearl and silver studs inject tough chic into elegant essentials such as the Breslin slingbacks and Varenne clutch.
Sculptural constructions, meanwhile, are softened by sensuous shapes. Set on a 90mm-curved heel with an open-toe design, the Sae sandals come with a delicate ankle strap crafted to resemble a crystal anklet. And to redefine arm candy for ladies who want it all, the Bon Bon sac is a sparkling lurex lust-must with its sleek drawstring chain and cute tassel detailing.
Palettes have stuck to neutrals but refreshed with the occasional eye-popping bright or a dash of eel skin or tortoiseshell. The Rya mules, which hark back to the 1990s with its pointed-toe style, have been refreshed with bands of black and cognac. Marrying form and function is the Madeline crossbody bag, which comes in hues of black, white or ballet pink, and features a sensible streamlined silhouette.
