Another Mid-Autumn Festival, another swathe of pretty boxes to collect. But which are the fanciest, and which house the tastiest mooncakes? We have a few suggestions. Read on for our top picks.

01 | JW Marriott Singapore South Beach

If you’ve been to Madame Fan, you know the vibe it’s going for, namely decadent mid-century Shanghainese glam. It has applied the same sensibilities to its Mid-Autumn Festival offerings, all housed in a box that wouldn’t look too out of place on a decadent vanity.

Inside, you’ll find a selection of equally luxurious flavours, such as the newly introduced Bird’s Nest with Japanese Sweet Potato Mini Snowskin.

02 | The Marmalade Pantry

Bored of boxes? The Marmalade Pantry has just the thing. Its four mooncake flavours this Mid-Autumn will satisfy both modern and traditional palates, and the treats are all packaged in an exclusive — and environmentally friendly — gift set.

The woven bag is made of sustainable rattan paper material, lined with polycotton fabric, and it is finished with a bamboo handle and twist-lock. It houses two mooncakes filled with white lotus paste and a choice of salted egg yolk or macadamia nuts, as well as a baked taro mooncake filled with sweet lychee paste, and a charcoal baked mooncake with black sesame paste and melon seeds.

03 | Enabling Village

Social enterprise Enabling Village delivers a more meaningful take on the festivities with a special gift set. Each box comes with two traditional mooncakes — filled with white lotus paste and red bean paste — that are baked and packed by members of the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS), as well as the Metta Cafe, which provides these students with on-the-job training.

Accompanying the two mooncakes is a traditional clay tea set and premium oolong leaves from teapasar. Proceeds from each purchase will help empower the lives of persons with disabilities through the i’mable Collective — as well as those who’ve created the gift set.

04 | Raffles Hotel

You can’t go wrong with the classics: Raffles Hotel certainly proves that with its very sophisticated double-panelled box that’s replete with a delicate floral embroidery on the exterior.

Inside, you’ll find a bevy of traditional delights: Think silken white lotus paste ensconcing decadent yolks and crunchy macadamia nuts.

05 | Nouri & Minerva Passion

Here’s something a little different. If you’ve been trying to cut down on the amount of waste you’ve been generating — but want a pretty mooncake shot for the ‘Gram — you’ll love the one-Michelin-starred Nouri’s collaboration with Minerva Passion: The bold black-and-white mooncake boxes are 100 percent recyclable and compostable.

Don’t let its sustainable exterior fool you. The mooncakes inside are specially created by chef Ivan Brehm himself, and they feature unique creations such as “Love is Everywhere”, a mooncake that punctuates each bite with salted sakura blossoms, as well as peach and apricot slices. Sustainability, but make it gourmet.
