As Singapore slowly (but surely) eases its social and entertainment restrictions, Coachella was back to pre-Covid action last weekend after a two-year hiatus. The annual music festival — held out in the open at California’s Colorado Desert — has become a key constant in pop culture, with a line-up consisting of both established as well as emerging musicians.
Besides its stellar roster of headliners the likes of Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and more, Coachella is often credited as the impetus for brands (especially fast fashion ones) to begin producing capsule collections dedicated to festival wear. Think braided accessories in a multitude of colours, flower crowns, flowy and sheer printed cover-ups, and wide-brimmed hats to beat the heat with.
The 2022 edition of Coachella saw brands such as Hugo, Levi’s, and StockX getting in on the action as fashion partners — conceptualising parties and fringe events to add to the vibe of the two-weekend-long festival.
But at the end of the day, it’s the musical line-up that attendees travel from all over the world to see, and they rarely ever do disappoint. The first weekend of Coachella 2022 already gave us the unexpected reunion of South Korean girl group 2NE1 and a performance of their hit ‘I Am The Best’, as well as the guest appearance of country singer Shania Twain during Harry Styles’s set — all dressed in their Coachella bests.
