Tracing its roots to a bootleg distillery in Scotland’s Speyside region, The Macallan was first licensed in 1824 to a barley farmer. It subsequently became recognised for its light-hued, delicately fruit- and nut-forward single malt whiskies that lend well to festive carousing and a convivial backdrop. Channel the ebullience of the holidays with these two new releases from the famed distiller.

Make the toast of the year with A Night On Earth In Scotland

Rambunctious and reverent in equal measure, Scottish New Year’s Eve Hogmanay festivities are steeped in fascinating superstition. Customs range from the fiery – the fireballs parade is held as a cleansing ritual to burn off bad spirits – to the more intimate, whereby it is considered auspicious for a dark-haired visitor to be the first person to enter one’s home after midnight, bearing symbolic gifts like whisky, coal and Scottish shortbread.

Embodying these richly layered traditions is The Macallan’s A Night On Earth In Scotland single malt whisky, a celebration of Hogmanay’s revelry and sense of optimism for the year ahead. Created from a selection of the distillery’s sherry seasoned American and European oak casks, along with American ex-bourbon barrels, the whisky is imbued with a rich, sweet shortbread-like character, and soft, velvety mouthfeel. Its packaging features abstract artwork by Japanese-French illustrator Erica Dorn. Indulge in gastronomy: The Macallan Harmony Collection Private Dining Experience

Pastry chef Jordi Roca.

To create The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao, the first limited edition whisky in a new series of single malts, whisky maker Polly Logan embarked on a journey to Girona, Spain, where she delved into the chocolate-making process at pastry chef Jordi Roca’s chocolate factory. This persnickety approach to flavour profiling gave rise to the aforementioned whisky, crafted from a combination of sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks for a deep, dark chocolate profile. It’s encased in a biodegradable box made from the husks of cacao pods.

You can now sample a dram of this limited edition whisky expression, paired with Italian cuisine from a menu by Osteria BBR by Alain Ducasse, at The Macallan Harmony Collection Private Dining Experience. It’s available on December 13, 16 and 23, at The Macallan at Raffles Hotel Singapore, and is sweetened by a special dessert created by Janice Wong. The award-winning chocolatier also collaborated with the brand on a sold-out chocolate and Macallan whisky pairing event at ION Sky on December 4 and 5.
