Game-Changing Anti-Ageing Treatments to Look Out For in 2020

Maintain Bouncy Baby Skin With Youth Preserve

This skin modelling treatment is designed for those who want to get a head start on maintaining their bouncy, youthful complexion. The key to the treatment is hyaluronic acid, which is injected into the skin. But this is no ordinary hyaluronic acid injectible; on top of hydrating the skin and preventing fine lines, it can also stimulate the skin’s own collagen and elastin production to ward off any future ageing.

SW1 Clinic uses Profhilo®, which has one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the market (64mg / 2ml). The doctors performing Youth Preserve also employ a special 5-point technique that allows the product to spread evenly. And because Profhilo releases hyaluronic acid slowly over 28 days, any inflammatory response in the skin is reduced, and the positive effects of the treatment last much longer than usual.

Apart from the deep hydration and skin boosting effects from the hyaluronic acid, patients can also expect a tightening and lifting effect from the treatment. Because Youth Preserve is intended as a youth-maintenance treatment, it is recommended for anyone above the age of 30 who wishes for an eternally youthful complexion.

A top-up treatment is recommended after one month, with results lasting up to six months. A twice-yearly regimen, according to SW1 Clinic, will confer an enduring glow and help to stave off the ravages of time.

Combat Jowls With The Nefertiti Facelift

Inspired by the ancient Egyptian queen’s famously sharp jawline, the Nefertiti Facelift is designed to tighten sagging skin in the jaw area and halt the possibility of any further drooping in future.

According to SW1 Clinic, part of why skin tends to sag in the jaw area is due to the activity of the platysma muscle, a broad sheet of muscle fibres in the neck connected to the collarbone and jaw. The platysma is essential for facial expressions, but also heavily tugs on the skin in the jaw area. As time passes and the skin loses its elasticity, it becomes less able to resist the pull of the platysma, and starts to sag. The Nefertiti Facelift aims to end this tug of war.

The treatment consists of micro-injections of muscle relaxant (i.e. Botox) in the platysma to relieve its excess activity, thereby preventing the heavy pull on the skin in the jaw. Collagen-stimulating ingredients in the microinjection will also help to tighten any existing loose skin in the area, so you can experience a natural but significant lifting and tightening effect. The skin in the neck area should also be smoothed over.

The Nefertiti Facelift takes about a week to show best results, but has almost no downtime. Depending on individual lifestyle factors and the rate of ageing, the lift can last anywhere between 3-5 months — but according to SW1, repeated treatments may show better results.

For All-Round Anti-Ageing, Try Youth Savant

The Youth Savant is so named because it is a truly exceptional anti-ageing treatment, unlike anything else on the market. Unlike other anti-ageing treatments, which stimulate collagen and elastin, the Youth Savant targets the root cause of ageing — DNA.

Youth Savant uses an injectible called polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), derived from salmon sperm DNA — don’t worry, it is entirely safe and sterile. PDRN acts on the DNA in skin cells, triggering the so-called ‘salvage pathway’. According to Dr Kenneth Lee, medical director of SW1 Clinic, “salvage pathways are used to recover (DNA) bases and nucleosides that are formed during degradation of RNA and DNA. This has several important implications for our skin.” The degradation of DNA is one of the key reasons we age, so it stands to reason that the reduction of this degradation would help to prevent ageing.

PDRN has a myriad of effects. Besides reducing DNA degradation, it can also confer protection from UV-induced damage (another key reason for ageing), increase the proliferation of stem cells, accelerate tissue repair and healing, and drastically reduce inflammation. Sounds like a miracle, right?

So how does this translate to skin improvement? Well, PDRN rejuvenates the skin and heavily boosts its resilience, and retards its natural ageing process. Patients who undergo Youth Savant will experience a brightening of the skin tone, reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, and greater skin elasticity. The complexion is also visibly more luminous and glowy, with a radiance that comes from within.

Because of the nature of the PDRN injections, Youth Savant does involve a small amount of downtime, with possible needle marks and mild bruising that may occur in rare cases. Initially, Youth Savant can be done as frequently as once a month (after which the results should already be visible), until the desired results are achieved. After this stage, booster treatments are recommended once every six months as maintenance.
