According to SW1 Clinic, part of why skin tends to sag in the jaw area is due to the activity of the platysma muscle, a broad sheet of muscle fibres in the neck connected to the collarbone and jaw. The platysma is essential for facial expressions, but also heavily tugs on the skin in the jaw area. As time passes and the skin loses its elasticity, it becomes less able to resist the pull of the platysma, and starts to sag. The Nefertiti Facelift aims to end this tug of war.
