The Agenda: A Decadent New Bar Opens, Balenciaga’s Latest Statement Sneakers, And Other Things You Need To Know

01 | Revel like a baron at the new Barbary Coast Ballroom

There are bars, and then there’s the new Barbary Coast Ballroom. Drenched as it is in seductive velvets, darkened booths and gothic details, this lush new watering hole sits in a preserved shophouse in Boat Quay — but you’d be forgiven for thinking it slinked out from another century.

And though the name might sound uppity, there’s no pretence here, just like the jazz clubs and dance halls of yore. Nurse your exotic Three Graces cocktail — laden with Madagascan vanilla and rhubarb bitters — and tuck into decadent baked oysters and charcuterie boards while you soak in the atmosphere.

Barbary Coast Ballroom is now open on the second floor of 16 North Canal Road.

02 | Get the perfect Spring look with Three’s latest makeup collection

Forget about your black liners and nude shadows; Three wants you to immerse yourself in all the beauty and colour of springtime. The Japanese brand’s latest range of eye palettes, lip crayons, and eyeliners combine the playful freshness of the new season with pared back elegance. The glossy, balm-like Magic Touch Lip Writer comes in five vibrant shades, while shades in each of the four eye palettes have just the right balance between electric and classy.

And new Indestructible Eyeliner speaks for itself: this everything-proof liner will keeps its beautiful finish till you take it off at the end of the day, and comes in eight shades. Aside from the classic ash black, Three invites you to experiment with bold shades like Brown Berry and Alchemy Blue.

Three cosmetics is available at Tangs and Takashimaya Department Store.

03 | Up your shoe game with Balenciaga’s Tyrex Sneaker

Sure, the ugly sneaker might have outlived its time — but Balenciaga’s latest drop is anything but. The Tyrex is the latest in Balenciaga’s line of head-turning sneaker. It made its debut at the label’s Summer 20 runway show, making quite the splash with its otherworldly design.

The asymmetrical, sinuous sneaker borrows some elements from athletic wear — what with the muscle-like web on the outsole — though its slick silhouette makes it the brand’s most wearable yet.

04 | Etro revives a beloved childhood character for the Lunar New Year

Remember Jerry, the seemingly indestructible brown rodent from those old-timey cartoons? Etro does, too — that’s why he’s the star of their latest capsule collection, created just in time for the Year of the Rat. In collaboration with Warner Bros, the entire collection is dedicated to Jerry, with unisex pieces like sweaters, dress shirts all adorned with his visage, plus accessories like bags and scarves. Etro’s signature paisley print also gets a festive update with a trippy new Jerry pattern.

05 | Enter the Lunar New Year glided in Graff

When it comes to jewellery, few do subtle glamour better than Graff. Make a statement with some of their signature collections this Chinese New Year: the Snow Queen line features pear-shaped yellow and white diamonds adorned on dangly earrings and necklaces, while the Threads Collection draws on the concept of everlasting connections. And if you’re planning to tie the knot this year, the Laurence Graff Signature Collection’s timeless wedding bands and peerless diamonds make for the perfect way to pop the question.
